Pickpockets can completely ruin your holiday to a foreign country if you aren't prepared. When you lose your identification like passport, you could even get stuck in that country until everything is sorted out. To make the process as easy as possible, you should keep photocopies of your credit cards, your passport, and any other forms of identification. Keep copies at your hotel, and leave separate copies with somebody at home.

Generally speaking, Guilin is a really safe place in China, and you don’t have to be worried, even you walk in the street in the late evening. Just like anywhere in the world, tourists/travelers are always the targets or victims of pickpockets. To avoid the bad situation, here below we have some suggestions for your reference:

a) Do not show off your wealth, and remove your necklace or bracelet when you stroll outside.

b) The best defense against pickpockets is to make it hard to get to your valuables. A good option is a money belt under your clothes.

c) Avoid walking through large crowds like in a busy street. Pickpockets can easily blend in and snatch wallets or digital cameras without anyone noticing.

d) When you take a public bus from or to Yangshuo, please don’t fall asleep on the way. Pickpocketing may happen during the 1.5-hour bus ride.
